suggested Process Vs. Design/Planning work items

Jun 24, 2012 at 4:04 PM

We are interested in this process to make our internal process more agile...... but we noticed that the design/planning stage is not well presented either in terms of work items related or the design itself........

So what:

(A) What is the recommendation to include this important stage in the process and

(B) are there any recommended tools that can be integrated with TFS2010 which can make sure that the traceability is achieved too...

(C) Also does "Enterprise Architect (EA)" is well integrated with TFS2010?

thanks,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you on this.

(A) WRT to the Design/Planning stage, from the perspective of the GovDev template these are Task work items in the process.  For example:  Plan Iteration; Design database schema, Design UI mock-ups, etc.  Like other top-level Task work items, these are tied back to the Use Case and worked on in a specific Iteration/Sprint.  The top-level tasks can be further decomposed into additional child Task work items if you so choose and the Traceability Report will maintain the hierarchy.

(B) As mentioned in A, the using Task work items, the traceability is maintained.

(C) I am assuming that you mean Sparx's Enterprise Architect (EA) tool.  Integration can be achieved between TFS 2010 and EA via the Visual Studio UML Modeling project in VS 2010 Ultimate using the UML Import Feature Pack (part of your MSDN subscription).  The feature pack allows us to import UML models that have been exported from other tools using XMI.  VS 2010 Ultimate supports UML 2.1.1.

Thanks
