description

Hi,

we are currently evaluating TFS 2012 RC. Any plans to upgrade the GovDev template to TFS 2012? Installing and uploading to 2012RC ist not really working:

TFS 2012RC

Thomas,

The template was designed specifically for TFS 2010 SP1. I have not tested its compatibility with TFS 2012 RC but I would not expect it to work. There are new work items and maybe some changes in how the SharePoint solutions are structured. It is something hat I will look at closer once I get back from vacation :).

My plan is to create a TFS 2012 version but I can't provide an ETA on when it will be available yet.

Thanks

Brian

Thomas,

I finally had a chance to test the current GovDev template (v1.0) against a clean TFS 2012 RC installation. As I suspected, the template did not deploy properly. This was due to a missing assembly: Microsoft.TeamFoundation.SharePoint.Dashboards.Common, Version=10.0.0.0. In looking through the GAC, it seems that we (Microsoft) created Policy redirect assemblies for all of the TFS SharePoint specific dependent assemblies except the Dashboards.Common assembly that I reference in my GovDev SharePoint customizations WSP. I will either need to see if I can remove the dependency or add the proper Policy binding redirect as part of the WSP.

To get around the SP deployment issue and see if there were any other glaring issues, I just commented out my custom WSP deployment in the WssTasks.xml file of the Process Template. After doing so, the new team project was created and I was able to create and link work items as expected. I did not run into any of the issues you indicated above. Running the Traceability Report generated the expected hierarchy. However, the report did indicate that I had a conflict in the Microsoft.VSTS.Scheduling.StoryPoints field between the two collections that I have running. The conflicts occur because there are differences in the attributes set for reportable fields that are defined across team project collections. Obviously something changed between TFS 2010 SP1 and TFS 2012 RC that I need to investigate.

The good news from my perspective is that I likely do not have to make major changes to the existing GovDev work items and that I just need to incorporate new work items from the 6.0 templates when they are final, fix the SP WSP for the binding redirect, and update documentation to release a TFS 2012 version of GovDev :).

Thanks

Brian

Do you have any update when you could upgrade GovDev 2010 to work with TFS 2012?

What is required to made this template part of out of the box templates?

Thomas,

I have started active development on the project again (https://govdevfortfs.codeplex.com/discussions/395179 ). If you want to contribute or just provide feedback, I'm happy to take either. As to this being an OOB template, there is no chance of that happening :) -- the product group has too much else on their plate.

Thanks
